The event was chaired by Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong.

In August, the General Staff has directed the whole military to fulfill assigned missions as planned. In particular, agencies and units have strictly carried out combat readiness regulations and advised the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense to report to the Party and State leaders to deal with circumstances in a timely and effective manner.

In addition, the whole military has conducted education and training for candidates as scheduled, reviewed the 10-year implementation of the Central Military Commission’s resolution on raising training quality in the 2013-2022 period and the years to come, and strictly actualized the Defense Minister’s directive on building outstanding and exemplary units. Military academies and schools have well implemented military enrollment work in 2022 as regulated, while agencies and units have prepared forces and vehicles to conduct search and rescue and closely followed developments of storms and whirlwinds and developed plans to protect barracks and weaponry.

Speaking at the event, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong praised agencies and units for their task accomplishment in August and pointed out shortcomings that need addressing in the coming time. 

Regarding missions in September and the time to come, the Chief of the General Staff asked the whole military to strictly maintain combat readiness, follow situational developments to make timely recommendations to higher levels to effectively deal with issues. He also urged agencies and units to cooperate with public security force to ensure security at important political events of the country.

General Cuong requested the Vietnam Border Guard Command to review and adjust the operation of border posts along the borderline and accelerate patrols to prevent illegal immigration. Meanwhile, the Naval Service and other forces should pay attention to protecting sea economy-related activities, patrol, and promote dissemination to safeguard national sovereignty.

Next month, the General Staff will direct agencies and units to make thorough preparations for and organize exercises and accelerate the process of buying, producing, renovating, and fixing weapons and technical equipment.

The Chief of the General Staff also asked agencies and units to focus on specialized training for the border guards and others forces in border areas. In addition, training to raise standing militia flotillas’ capability of protecting sea and islands and building of militia models participating in combat readiness, defensive area exercises, and natural disaster and disease prevention and control missions should be paid attention to.
