GDL debuts self-propelled field kitchen truck
PANO – Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) and Deputy Defense Minister on August 8 inspected a new project run by the Department of Military Supplies of the General Department of Logistics (GDL) themed “Designing and piloting a self-propelled field kitchen truck for a battalion or equivalent size unit that participate in field training and combat exercises”.

At the inspection, Major General Nguyen Xuan Hai, Chief of the Department of Military Supplies reported the operation of the project and its initial outcomes to the defense leader. Accordingly, the unit successfully designed and manufactured a self-propelled field kitchen truck with a crew of eight military chefs. The vehicle could prepare food for 200 to 250 troops during a set time of an hour and a half. The kitchen truck includes a clean water tank, a freshwater filtration system, food storage, communication system and other utilities.
In addition, the unit also researched to manufacture oil stoves for a platoon or equivalent size unit and produce helmets for troops.
General Giang praised the unit’s endeavors in researching and manufacturing the new self-propelled field kitchen vehicle for the army, and asked them to continue absorbing opinions and ideas from agencies and units to perfect the kitchen truck at the soonest time.
