The Army Games 2022, the eighth edition, drew the participation of 264 teams from 34 countries and territories worldwide, competing in 34 events.
The Vietnamese delegation with 187 coaches and athletes competed in 10 events, including the “Special Sprint” event which Vietnamese contingent took part in for the first time and whose members are Vietnamese cadets at a Russian academy.
With higher levels’ thoughtfulness and direction, Vietnamese troops promoted solidarity, competed confidently, and achieved prizes. With one gold, two silver, and four bronze medals, the Vietnam People’s Army delegation ranked the fifth among 34 participating countries, exceeding its set goal. The gold medal was brought by the “Emergency Area” team, a strong mark of the Vietnam People’s Army in the games.

Attentively, Vietnam has hosted the “Emergency Area” event for the second time. Despite various difficulties, the event was successful thanks to high determination and close coordination among relevant forces, ensuring absolute safety. Through this event, participating troops learnt more about the country, its tradition, culture, people, and military.
Addressing the event, General Giang emphasized that participating in the games demonstrated the Vietnam People’s Army’s responsibility and competence in international military activities. The games were a chance for Vietnamese troops to learn from their peers, compete, gain experience in training, combat readiness, and host games, especially get access to and use modern materiel, thereby raising the position of Vietnam in general and of the Vietnam People’s Army in particular.

The defense minister stressed that the Central Military Commission and MND leaders highly appreciated high sense of responsibility and great efforts of contingents and relevant forces in training, competitions, and organization of the event in Vietnam.
He congratulated contingents and individuals on their achievements, and those involved in organizing the Emergency Area event in Vietnam on their direction, active coordination to ensure a successful hosting of the event, raising Vietnam and its military’s prestige and status.
To get higher results at the Army Games in 2023 and following years, General Giang asked agencies and units in the whole military to strictly observe directives on military and defense work on Army Games participation, focusing on events that Vietnamese military has strengths. He also urged them to focus their leadership on choosing troops, organizing training, and hosting events in a close, scientific, disciplinary, and safe manner, as well as drawing lessons regularly to improve training quality, contributing to achieving higher results in future games.

General Giang asked the General Staff, the General Department of Political Affairs, other general departments, and functional agencies to learn from participating countries’ experience to improve training programs, raising training quality in the whole military, and promoting synergy, maneuverability, and competence of the military to meet the requirements of the Fatherland protection cause.
At the event, certificates of merit of the Defense Minister were presented to 29 groups and 139 individuals, merit certificates of the Chief of the General Staff were presented to 28 collectives and 194 individuals, and merit certificates of the Director of the General Department of Political Affairs were handed over to 23 collectives and 63 individuals in recognition of their achievements at the Army Games 2022.
