Also present at the event were Lieutenant General Tran Quang Phuong, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA); Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the VPA’s General Staff; and representatives from functional units and agencies under the ministry.

At the meeting, the delegation  was  briefed on preparations for a ceremony to welcome the return of Level-two Field Hospital Rotation 1 from the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) as well as for the deployment of Level-two Field Hospital Rotation 2 to the UNMISS.

General Vinh and his entourage toured several facilities at Military Hospital 175 and encouraged the staff of Level-two Field Hospital Rotation 3 to achieve good outcomes at pre-deployment training courses.

Reportedly, Level-two Field Hospital Rotation 1 has been performing well at the UNMISS. The Vietnamese medical peacekeepers have shown great determination and effort in treating patients and doing external affairs.

Military Hospital 175 made recommendations to the Defense Ministry to continue to assign Level-two Field Hospital Rotation 1’s staff, after returning home, to join search and rescue missions and exercises at regional and international levels if requested. In addition, the ministry should select several outstanding cadres from Level-two Field Hospital Rotation 1 to train staff for the next Level-two Field Hospitals.

Level-two Field Hospital Rotation 2 is actively completing final preparations for its upcoming deployment to the UNMISS.

Concluding the meeting, General Vinh highly valued the efforts of the Vietnam Department for Peacekeeping Operations, Military Hospital 175, and Military Medical Academy for supporting the operation of Level-two Field Hospital Rotation 1 in the UNMISS and for preparing for the deployment of the second hospital to South Sudan.

He asked relevant agencies to host a ceremony to welcome back Level-two Field Hospital Rotation 1 and a ceremony to send Level-two Field Hospital Rotation 2 to the UNMISS.

The Deputy Defense Minister requested personnel of Level-two Field Hospital Rotation 2 to carefully review the preparations for the upcoming assignment as well as asked relevant agencies to conduct policies for the hospitals’ personnel and their families, and to spread information about these activities on the mass media.

Stressing the importance of Vietnam’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations, General Vinh urged functional units to strong determination and responsibility, and to successfully complete all assigned missions.
