Defense ministry reviews the protection of seas and islands
PANO – Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Defense Minister, chaired a conference on November 20 in Hanoi on the protection of national sovereignty over seas and islands.
Over the past time, under the instruction of the Politburo, the Prime Minister, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense, the General Staff has led and directed agencies and units throughout the military to closely follow situational developments, so as to make timely recommendations for the higher levels to make policies to protect the national seas and islands.

Recently, being asked by the General Staff to amend legal documents and develop plans to protect seas and islands, the unit has cooperated with other military and civilian units to promote information dissemination, contributing to foiling all of the schemes of hostile forces.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of National Defense, ministries, and central and local agencies have persistent followed the Party’s policy to protect the national seas and islands by conducting diplomatic activities at different levels, while encouraging civilians to protect national sovereignty over the seas and islands.
Delegates discussed and agreed on different measures to firmly protect national sovereignty over the seas and islands in the coming time, with a focus on promoting information dissemination, exactly forecast situational developments, the building of maritime militia forces, and fostering firm people's warfare.
