Previously, the Department of Search and Rescue under the General Staff and the Thua Thien – Hue Provincial Authorities lost contact with 13 out of 21 personnel of a working delegation from the Military Region 4 Command while they were conducting a search and rescue (SAR) mission at the Rao Trang 3 Hydroelectric Plant.

Followed by the tropical storm Nangka, torrential rains triggered flooding in the central region. At the Rao Trang 3 Hydroelectric Plant, a landslide buried 10 workers.

To seek approaches to search for the 10 victims of landslide, the Military Region 4 Command sent a working group to the scene. Unfortunately, another big landslide occurred during the night that buried the shelter, where the working group were staying. 13 of them went missing, and only 8 escaped from the accident.

After receiving the information, the Ministry of National Defense ordered relevant forces to immediately search for the missing officers and sent its Deputy Minister Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong to the scene to direct the rescue efforts.

The Military Region 4 Command mobilized 200 troops and 12 different vehicles for the rescue missions. In addition, the Defense Ministry directed the Air Defense and Air Force Service to send two helicopters to assist the rescue efforts.

The Defense Ministry also issued Directive No.162/TK to ask the Military Region 4 Command, the Department of Search and Rescue, and relevant units to increase rescue efforts and natural disaster relief.
