Sr. Lt. Gen. Le Duc Thai chairs the working session with the Vietnam Coast Guard.

At the meeting, Commander of the Vietnam Coast Guard Maj. Gen. Le Dinh Cuong reported that in 2025, under the leadership and direction of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, and through close coordination with relevant forces, the Vietnam Coast Guard has successfully fulfilled its military and defense tasks, with many missions accomplished excellently.

Highlights included strict observance of combat readiness regulations; effective organization of patrols and law-enforcement operations to firmly safeguard national sovereignty; decisive and effective fight of IUU fishing violations; timely search and rescue operations and assistance to people affected by natural disasters.

In addition, in the year, the Vietnam Coast Guard has successfully organized its sixth Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term. The force has received the fisheries surveillance forces according to plan without interruption; and effectively combated crime and law violations at sea. Moreover, it has promoted international cooperation and defense diplomacy; and ensured consistent, effective implementation of logistics, technical support, and other areas of work. Attentively, its troops have shown high determination and readiness to undertake and fulfill all assignments.

In his concluding speech, Gen. Thai highly praised the Vietnam Coast Guard and its troops’ task performance in the year.

To effectively fulfill missions in the coming period, the defense leader requested the force to stay pro-active and responsive, closely coordinate with relevant forces, and enhance its capability in research, grasping and making accurate forecasting of the situational development at sea and on islands.

It should also give timely suggestions to the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense to effectively safeguard national sovereignty in accordance with law.

Gen. Thai asked for close coordination with other forces in countering and driving away foreign vessels violating Vietnam’s waters in accordance with established policies and approaches; effective execution of tasks related to combating IUU fishing violations; continued implementation of program “Coast guards stand side-by-side with fishermen” and “I love national sea and islands” contest and two peak periods of fighting against crime and law violations in 2026, and detection and handling of illegal fishing violations at sea.
