Defense leader checks COVID-19 prevention and control in Dong Thap
PANO - A delegation of the Ministry of National Defense, led by Lt. Gen. Phung Si Tan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, visited and inspected the COVID-19 prevention and control of the Dong Thap Provincial Border Guard Command on July 21.

At the visit, the unit’s leadership briefed the delegation on their task performance over the past time. Dong Thap has 50.5 km of the shared borderline with the Cambodian province of Pray Veng. Therefore, the command allocated 26 checkpoints and 18 mobile patrol teams in the border area in order to prevent people from illegally entering Vietnam and fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since the beginning of 2021, the local border guards detected 204 smuggling cases, seized two people for illegal entry and exit, took 505 people to concentrated quarantine areas, and more.
In addition, the provincial border guard command handed over medical supplies, worth VND 700 million in total, to support the COVID-19 fight of relevant forces in Cambodia and the Vietnamese-Khmer People Association in Pray Veng province.
Speaking at the event, General Tan higly valued the responsibility of Dong Thap border troops in managing and protecting the border area as well as fighting illegal immigration and preventing the COVID-19 pandemic. He urged the unit to actively implement urgent measures to mobilize locals to strictly observe the pandemic preventive regulations while ensuring safety and security in the border area.
