General Thai made the commendation during his visit to the provincial Border Guard Command on May 18.

During the visit, General Thai and his entourage encouraged troops at 13 COVID-19 prevention and control checkpoints run by local border guard units and at other international border gates.

Reportedly, the provincial Border Guard Command is tasked to ensure security along the 50.5km borderline.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic situation has developed complicatedly, the locality has seen more cases of illegal entry and exit through the borderline. Therefore, border management, crimes and COVID-19 prevention work has become more difficult for the local border guard force.

However, under the timely and sound leadership of the Party Committee and the leadership of the Vietnam Border Guard Command, the local border guard force has strengthened border management and defense and further prevented people from illegally going in and out of the country. They have also worked closely with other relevant forces to effectively fight crimes.

The command’s affiliates have sent troops to visit local people, raise people’s awareness of law enforcement, and encourage them to report illegal immigration organizers.

Attentively, since the third outbreak of COVID-19 in Cambodia, the command has reinforced checkpoints to monitor cross-border entry and exit and prevent COVID-19 from spreading in the country.

In his concluding speech, General Thai acknowledged the local border troops’ task performance. Noting that the pandemic will develop more complicatedly and the number of illegal migrants, drug crimes, and drug trafficking will be on the rise, General Thai urged the provincial Border Guard Command to comprehensively carry out border-related measures, and closely follow situational developments.

The command was also asked to coordinate with local relevant forces to boost patrols, information dissemination and promote border diplomacy with the Cambodian border protection force to resolve emerging issues.

Regarding the upcoming election of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and the all-level People’s Councils for 2021-2026, General Thai asked local border units to increase information dissemination and collaborate with local relevant agencies to ensure troops’ civil rights and exercise COVID-19 prevention and control measures.

The Chief of the Vietnam Border Guard Command affirmed that local border troops will raise their responsibility, stay united, and complete all assigned missions.
