PANO – Member of the Politburo, Vice Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and Defence Minister, General Phung Quang Thanh paid a working visit to Infantry Division 5 under Military Zone 7 on October 23rd.

After checking the training work and combat readiness of the division as well as visiting quarters, mess halls for troops and soldiers’ gardens, the Defence Minister listened to the reports from the division’s Commander and Political Commissar on force building, training, combat readiness, and building the strong Party organization of the unit in the first 9 months of the year.

Since the beginning of the year, the unit has strictly followed the combat readiness regulations; has effectively implemented its training plan; has been ready to manoeuvre its force under orders from higher commands; and has mobilized sufficient human and material resources for natural disaster prevention, rescue and relief.

The unit also spent a good deal of labour in preparing training grounds and aids before the training season. The division command instructed its subordinate units to train troops in all contents, meeting the requirements of the training plan made by the General Staff.

According to reports, the quality of training in 2012 has been remarkably improved; the unit won a number of high prizes in military competitions held by Military Zone 7 in 2012; and 100 percent of its subordinate units successfully finished the 2012 first-half combat readiness training task. Especially, Division 5 is always recognized as a model unit in terms of environmental culture, beautiful landscape and greens production.

Additionally, the division continuously focuses in force building and Party building, striving to be a standardized and modernized unit.   

Addressing the meeting with key personnel of the division, the Defence Minister commended the unit’s achievements over the past time.

He noted that the division’s leadership and command should pay more attention to personnel work, have a thorough grasp of troops’ thinking and better implement the policy on troops’ families, as well as fostering unity across the unit.

Regarding Party works, he asked Party organizations across the division to improve the quality of Party activities and meetings, and heighten the spirit of self-criticism and criticism in line with the Resolution of the fourth meeting of the Central Party Committee.

On the afternoon, the Defence Minister visited troops of Regiment 174 under the Tay Ninh Military Command.
