Over the years, officers and soldiers of Brigade 249 have consistently upheld a strong spirit of unity, overcome all difficulties, and successfully fulfilled their training and combat readiness tasks. They have effectively clear post-war bombs, mines and unexploded ordnance; ensured smooth traffic through PMP pontoon bridges; and built border patrol roads.

Sr. Lt. Gen. Le Duc Thai speaks at the ceremony.

The unit has been a core force in disaster prevention and control and in assisting local people in disaster relief efforts.  These have helped further beautify military engineers’ proud traditions of “Opening the way to victory.”

Attentively, in 1985 and 2011, the Brigade was honored with the title "Hero of the People’s Armed Forces." Notably, it has excellently ensured traffic with military pontoons and successfully built crossing terminals in Phu Tho province’s Phong Chau area, shining noble qualities of Uncle Ho’s soldiers.

On behalf of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, Gen. Thai highly praised and congratulated Brigade 249 on its attainments in recent years. He asked the unit to focus on improving the quality of training and combat readiness posture; training with close alignment with the realities of combat engineering missions.
