At the meeting

At the meeting, Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Commander of the Border Guard Command, briefed the mission on the force’s task performance in 2019.

Last year border guard units effectively fulfilled all assigned missions. The force closely followed situational developments to make timely recommendations for the Party, State, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense to issue guidelines and policies on the work. In addition, they effectively combated drug trafficking, smuggling and trade frauds while strictly exercising combat readiness regulations, responding to natural disasters, conducting search and rescue and actively building the whole people’s defense posture.

Logistic, technical, Party and political work were also effectively implemented, contributing to strengthening the combat strength of the force. All border guard troops showed absolute trust in the leadership of the Party and determination to fulfil all assigned missions.

Last year, under the leadership of the Border Guard’s Party Committee and Command, border guard commands of provinces and cities effectively conducted defensive area exercises and actively participated in responding to natural disasters. In the year, the force mobilized more than 17,500 troops and over 600 vehicles of different kinds for search and rescue missions. The units saved more than 900 residents and around 100 vehicles, evacuated approximately 14,000 people to safer places and provided shelters for more than 1,500 people.

The whole command sent thousands of Party members to border villages, assisted thousands of students in going to school and supported 355 others. The border guard force cracked down 6,273 cases, captured 9,533 suspects, seized 3,067 kg of illegal drugs and confiscated 45 guns and more than 1,300 bullets.

Regarding the prevention of acute respiratory disease caused by novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Border Guard’s Party Committee and Command instructed its affiliate agencies and units to embrace directives and orders from the Government and the Ministry of National Defense on the prevention of the disease.  The Border Guard Command established a mobile response teams at provincial border guard commands, strictly controlled cross-border trails and managed border areas.

Concluding the meeting, General Cuong highly appreciated the achievements recorded by the border guard force over the past time. He asked the force to thoroughly embrace higher level’s directives and actively cooperate with other relevant agencies to soon complete the Law on the Border Guard of Vietnam to submit to the National Assembly for approval. He also advised the Border Guard’s Party Committee and Command to make careful preparations for the Party congresses at all levels, toward the 13th National Party Congress.

The command was also urged to raise the quality of combat readiness training, open more refresher courses for different subjects, promote information and law dissemination for local residents and cooperate with other forces to prevent COVID-19.
