Book festival day to promote reading culture in the army
PANO – The Book and Reading Culture Festive Day was kicked off at the Military Library on March 30 by the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army, with the attendance of former Party General Secretary Le Kha Phieu; Deputy Minister of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem; and the general department’s Deputy Director, Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Nghia.

The two-day event was a practical cultural activity of military units in response to the Vietnam Book Day which falls on April 21 to raise people’s awareness of the importance of books in enriching their knowledge and shaping their personality, to promote a reading movement across society, as well as to honor book collectors, authors, publishers, and distributors. The festive day featured a book exhibition, talks about books, and a seminar on reading culture.
At the event, the General Department of Politics launched a reading movement among military units.
Speaking about the importance of book-reading, General Nghia said that troops should comprehend the values of books, arouse their passion for books, and develop their reading habit, making contributions to strengthening the reading culture in the whole army.
