At the event, delegates recalled the establishment and development of the corps over the past 45 years. The establishment of the Cuu Long Army Corps (predecessor of Army Corps 4) on July 20, 1974 in Ba Chiem Stream Base in Duong Minh district of Tay Ninh province marked a strong development in terms of force and command capacity of the Vietnam’s army.
Five months later, the unit recorded its first feat of arm making Phuoc Long the first liberated province in the South. During the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, troops of Army Corps 4 teamed up with other forces to liberate Trang Bom, Bien Hoa Airport, Tam Hiem and Sai Gon (present Ho Chi Minh City) and did the international service in Cambodia.
In peacetime, the unit has paid attention to raising the quality of training mission and combat readiness capabilities with a focus on building an army with firm political stance and military competence and promoted the implementation of emulation movements. For its achievements over the past 45 years, Army Corps 4 was presented with a second-class Fatherland Protection Order.
On behalf of the Central Military Commission, Ministry of National Defense and General Department of Politics (GDP), Lieutenant General Tran Quang Phuong, GDP’s Deputy Director praised and congratulated the unit on their achievements and feats of arm over the past years. He asked the unit to thoroughly grasp the Party’s guidelines, State’s policies and laws as well as the Central Military Commission’s resolutions and directives on military and defense missions, closely follow and evaluate situational developments to draw up suitable operational plan and make correct recommendations for higher levels to deal with arising scenarios, heighten vigilance as well as build a strong Party organization.
Army Corps 4 was also requested to actively fight wrong views of hostile forces, promote studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s ideology and morals, strengthen coordination with local authorities and people in building strong whole people’ defense and security postures and effectively carry out defense external relations.
