The troupe has made use of their time and space to train as planned and complete preparation for the competition. Since August 3, members of the troupe have self-practiced in their rooms at Salut Hotel. Even in such a small space of the hotel’s lobby, three Vietnamese dancers Nguyen Tra My, Nguyen Thu Thuy, and Nguyen Thi Hoang Yen have been seen practicing the “Huong rung” (Fragrance of Forest), following the instruction of Non-commissioned Captain Bui Phi Truong, head of the dancing team.

Captain Truong said that each member of the dancing troupe has to be active in training and collaborate well with one another, focusing on parts with difficult moves. The group-members have to focus on the dance during their practice to avoid injuries. The space is unfavorable; however, all dancers still practice everyday to master their performances.
Captain Truong joined Nguyen Tra My in another dance, themed “Sen da“” (Stone Lotus), the performance featuring an everlasting love through images of the stone lotus with its vitality.
At another lobby on the 16th storey of the hotel, we saw drum artist Nguyen Xuan Bac, flute artist Ha Cong Cuong, and monochord artist Dang Huong Giang discussing their performance.
Meanwhile, singer Luong Nguyet Anh and a group of dancers were practicing “Co doi thuong ngan” (Goddess of the Forest). Their performance drew much attention of Russian security officers nearby.
According to Colonel Dang My Hanh, Head of the Vietnamese “Army of Culture” contingent, participating in the event not only helps the troupe improve performing skills, but also introduces the Vietnamese land, people and the Vietnam People’s Army to international friends. All costumes for the performances, musical instruments, and the way to deliver the art works to the audiences are to highlight the authentic culture of Vietnam, a hospitable and peace-loving country.
The Vietnamese cultural and art troupe has prepared 18 art works to perform in the three stages of the competition named “Army of Culture.” In addition, an exhibition themed “Vietnamese Defense – Traditions and Integration” will also be held. |
