At the meeting, General Nghia welcomed the Lao delegation’s visit at the time the two countries are conducting numerous activities to mark the 60th anniversary of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic relations, and the 45th year of the signing of Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.

The Vietnamese general affirmed that the Party, State, Government, the military and people of Vietnam have always remembered the great support of the Lao counterparts in the struggle for national independence and reunification in the past and the current national construction.
He also emphasized that in its foreign policy, Vietnam always attaches importance and gives the highest priority to consolidating and promoting the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Laos.
The host spoke highly of the cooperative outcomes of the two sides, especially their great efforts to carry out cooperation contents amid the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He suggested the two sides focus on further cooperation in experience sharing, renovation and improvement of the efficiency of the staff work; give recommendations on military-defense work to the leaders of the two defense ministries.
General Nghia also suggested increasing exchange of delegations, especially high-level ones, co-organizing a wide range of defense diplomacy activities, such as a joint search and rescue exercise of Vietnamese, Lao, and Cambodian militaries, and a drill involving Vietnamese and Lao commandos.
The deputy chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army underlined that the leaders of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and General Staff always support and create favorable conditions for the two agencies to strengthen cooperation, thus deepening the bilateral defense ties.
Expressing thanks to the host for the reception, Major General Sonethong Keolokham agreed to promote cooperation contents, contributing to improving the advisory work and developing the cooperation between the two militaries in a more practical and effective manner.
