The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) is now in the dry season; therefore, local people have to live on water from wells dug by the mission or even from remaining water stagnations.

The water filtration system meets the United Nations standards.

Second-in-Command of the Vietnamese Engineering Company Major Vu Tri Xuyen held that working at the UNISFA, they partly understand the difficulties of the people in the Abyei area, especially the need to use water during the dry season. To address the issue, the unit has made a plan to install fresh water distribution sites around the area where the unit is stationed.

Vietnamese engineering troops instruct local people to get water from the system.

It helps not only people living near the base, but also from afar, have fresh water for their daily life. In the time ahead, the unit will upgrade the program to be able to provide from 10 to 12cu.m of water per day, meeting all the need of the local people.

The water sources have been processed through a water filtration system that meets the United Nations standards. The water pipeline is underground. They provide fresh water twice a day and two hours each with an average daily volume of 6 to 8cu.m.

The local people are all happy and thankful for the practical assistance of the Vietnamese Engineering Company, contributing to bringing fresh water and ensuring people’s health.

Abyei children are happy for receiving fresh water.

Besides, the Engineering Company also provides fresh water treated with RO filters (can be drunk directly) to Abyei Church on Fridays so that people coming to pray and children at Abyei Church Kindergarten can drink fresh water.
