The advance mission, led by Senior Colonel Mac Duc Trong, VNDPKO’s Deputy Director, Chief of the Engineering Company Rotation 1, and commanding officer of the Vietnamese forces in UNISFA, had a meeting with UNISFA’s Engineering Department to discuss the unit’s missions, including building of barracks in Abyei.  

In preparation for future tasks, Senior Colonel Mac Duc Trong led a mission to check route in the Northern Sub-division and Dokura Base, while Vice Chief of the Engineering Company Rotation 1 Major Nguyen Van Tu headed another team to tour Todach Base.

As planned, after receiving equipment, the Engineering Company Rotation 1 will start repairing and upgrading a road section near Abyei township. In the short term, the unit must negotiate with local people and seek their approval for the plan.

Regarding barracks building mission, together with building their own barracks, members of the units are tasked to construct barracks for other units.

During the survey in Todach Base, the Vietnamese team received active support from Pakistani peers. The commander of Pakistani unit voiced his hope that the two units will organize exchange programs in the coming time.

Earlier, the advance mission toured the location where the barracks of the Engineering Company Rotation 1 will be stationed. As planned, the Engineering Company Rotation 1 will be stationed in Highway Barracks, which is located around 3km from UNISFA.

At the event, Senior Colonel Mac Duc Trong thanked UNISFA’s relevant agencies for their assistance to the first Vietnamese engineering company in its first deployment.

On the occasion, the Vietnamese official asked UNISFA’s relevant agencies to upgrade degraded areas, including accommodations for the unit’s personnel and guard stations to ensure security and safety at the barracks.
