The volleyball competition was the first sidelines activity of engineer teams who will compete in the “Safe Route” event in Kstovo, Russia. Four teams from Russia, Uzbekistan, Belarus, and Vietnam were divided into two groups. Winners of each group played against each other at the final match.

In the qualifying match, the Vietnamese troops met their Russian peers. With the advantage of height, the Russian players scored first and were ahead in points. However, the Vietnamese troops with speed, good resilience, and teamwork beat their rival 2-0 to compete with Uzbekistani team, the winner of the second game, in the final match. 

Vietnamese player Pham Van Hieu said that all members of the team were excited at challenges and determined to win the current Uzbekistani champions in the final.

In the match, the Vietnamese players played with excellent performance and defeated their Uzbekistan rivals 2-0 to become the champions.

Vietnamese hitter Pham Van Hieu shared that the success of the team came from each member’ efforts, especially close coordination among players. The team’s performance received compliment from participating teams.

According to Colonel Pham Tuan Luc, Head of the Engineer Team, apart from preparing for the “Safe Route” event, members of the team actively played sports, including volleyball, weightlifting, and table tennis. The active preparation helped the team bag the gold medal, which will be handed to the winner at the closing ceremony of the Army Games 2020, Luc added.
