Vietnamese and Cambodian military units boost cooperation

PANO – The 16th Joint Meeting between Military Zone 5 (MZ 5) of the Vietnam People’s Army and Military Region 1 (MR 1) of the Royal Cambodian Army took place on March 17th in Da Nang City.
MZ 5’s Commander Lieutenant General Nguyen Long Cang and General Huot Chheang, Deputy Commander of the Army and Chief of MR 1 of Cambodia, co-chaired the meeting.
In the spirit of mutual understanding and the close friendship between the two countries, peoples, and armies, the two sides exchanged situations in the world, region, each country and localities in the two military regions.
The participants highly appreciated the effectiveness of their cooperation activities over the past time and agreed to promote the realization of the inked agreements, closely follow situations, and cooperate to ensure political posture and strengthen defence and security, making contributions to protecting a peaceful and stable environment for socio-economic development in localities in the two regions.
The same day, General Meas Sophea, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and chief of the Royal Cambodian Army, granted the Cambodian King’ and Government’s Friendship Order to 31 units and officers of Military Zone 5 in acknowledgement of their contributions to strengthening the cooperation and relationship between the MZ and the Royal Cambodian Army.
Addressing the ceremony, General Meas Sophea showed his admiration for the rapid development of Da Nang in particular and Vietnam in general, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. He recalled the wholehearted and valuable support of Vietnamese cadres and volunteer soldiers for the Cambodian people in the struggle against the genocide regime of Khmer Rouge. The Cambodian officer asked Vietnam’s MZ 5 and Cambodia’s MR 1 to promote information and experience exchange and cooperation to foil the hostile forces’ plots in a timely manner to ensure political stability and strengthen the defence posture.
On behalf of those honoured, General Cang thanked the Cambodian King’s and Government’s concern and spoke highly of the results of cooperation activities between Vietnamese and Cambodian officers. He stressed that in the coming time, MZ 5 will actively work with the MR 1 to effectively carry out the reached contents, making contributions to fostering friendship between the two countries and armies.
