Vietnam promotes defense ties with EU
PANO - Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, member of the Party Central Committee, permanent member of the Military Central Commission, and Deputy Minister of National Defense, on June 28 received Ambassador and Head of the Mission of the EU to Vietnam Bruno Angelet.

At the reception, Ambassador Bruno Angelet informed Gen. Vinh the development of the EU in recent years in all fields, especially in defense security field; and said that the two sides would create favorable conditions to promote bilateral defense ties in the coming time. To do so, the ambassador made a number of suggestions, such as boosting cooperation between research institutes of the two militaries, and cooperation in UN peacekeeping operations.
For his part, Gen. Vinh said that Vietnam has maintained good relations with the EU in general; and with EU countries in particular. He emphasized that Vietnam always attaches importance to the relationship with the EU and wishes to foster defense cooperation between the two sides.
In agreement with the recommendations of the ambassador, the general said that the two sides should increase exchanges of high-ranking delegations, build defense policy dialogue mechanism, and share experience in overcoming war consequences, search and rescue, and disaster relief.
