Vietnam, Myanmar bolster defense ties
PANO – A Vietnamese high-ranking defense delegation, led by Senior Lieutenant General Tran Don, Deputy-Defense Minister, visited Myanmar from June 8 to 12 at the invitation of the Myanmar Ministry of Defense.
The visit was to review the outcomes of the bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Myanmar over the past time, particularly since the recent official visit of Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Armed Forces, in March 2017 and the official visit of General Ngo Xuan Lich, Vietnamese Minister of National Defense, to Myanmar in October 2017.

Also, both sides discussed content and measures to accelerate cooperation in the time to come, thus contributing to cementing the bilateral defense ties to be on a par with the comprehensive cooperative partnership of the two countries.
During their stay, the Vietnamese defense delegation paid a courtesy visit to Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and had talks with Lieutenant General Sein Win, Myanmar Minister of Defense. During the meetings with Vietnamese delegates, the Myanmar officers highlighted the high political trust between the two countries and their militaries. They stressed that defense links between Myanmar and Vietnam in a number of fields have borne fruit, especially in training, logistical work, military medicine and defense industry.
On June 9, Senior Lieutenant General Tran Don attended a launching ceremony of the mobile network of the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel) in Myanmar. The project was seen as a result of the bilateral defense relations of the two countries. Myanmar leaders attending the ceremony held that they would continue to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises, including military companies to invest in their countries.
During their Myanmar visit, the Vietnamese defense delegation toured the Myanmar Defense Academy, the Vietnamese Embassy and Defense Attaché’s Office in the country.
