Vietnam, Japan promote naval cooperation
PANO - A Japanese delegation working on a cooperation project on capacity building in underwater medicine and UXO clearance, led by Ms. Sato Erika from the International Security Policy Office under the Bureau of Defense Policy of Japan’s Ministry of Defense, had a working session on October 3 with functional agencies of the Vietnam People's Navy.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed and agreed on the time and contents of the capacity building programs in underwater medicine and UXO clearance in 2019, thereby improving coordination to effectively implement the programs in the coming time.
The Japanese delegation informed the guests of specific cooperation programs and their contents from 2019 to 2022. Accordingly, Japan will send an underwater minesweeper to Da Nang city for a visit in December of 2019. During the visit, the Vietnamese and Japanese naval troops will hold a seminar on underwater UXO clearance to assess the capability of each country in conducting underwater UXO clearance, thus building training and cooperation programs on UXO clearance in the upcoming time. These programs were agreed on by the two ministries of national defense.
The two sides also reached a consensus on the time, content and method of organizing the seminar and some other activities when the Japanese ship visits Da Nang city in the future.
The same day, the Japanese delegation also worked with leaders of the Naval Medical Institute to agree on the contents of cooperation programs on underwater medicine in the coming time.
