Vietnam Coast Guard and Korea Coast Guard conduct joint search and rescue drill
PANO -The Vietnam Coast Guard and Korea Coast Guard coordinated to conduct a joint drill on maritime crime suppression and search and rescue operations in the waters of Yeosu city, South Jeolla province, the Republic of Korea on November 6.
The simulated scenario was that while conducting a joint patrol in international waters, the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Korea Coast Guard detected an unauthorized vessel entering the area. With the support of a helicopter from the Korea Coast Guard, both sides quickly approached and checked the vessel, and identified four violators. During the inspection, two individuals panicked and jumped overboard in an attempt to escape. Immediately, the joint forces organized a search and rescue operation, saving the individuals, giving first aid, and safely taking them to the Vietnam Coast Guard vessel for further treatment.
The joint exercise successfully met set goals and objectives. This event aimed to enhance the coordination capability of both nations' maritime law enforcement forces, improve their information exchange, and raise their ability of conducting joint mission, using forces and vehicles, and handling circumstances, thus strengthening the Vietnam Coast Guard and Korea Coast Guard's maritime law enforcement capacity.
