Vietnam, RoK to foster defense ties
PANO - Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Defense Senior Lieutenant General Le Huy Vinh had separate meetings with his Republic of Korean (RoK) counterpart Kim Seon Ho and In Sub Jung, President of Hanwha Ocean Co., Ltd. of Hanwha Group while accompanying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in the official visit to the RoK from June 30 to July 3.
During the meeting with the RoK’s deputy defense minister, Gen. Vinh expressed his impression about the country and its people and highly evaluated the bilateral friendship which is, as he said, in the strongest development stage with high level of political trust. He expressed confidence that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's official visit to the RoK would deepen and make breakthroughs in the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

The Vietnamese deputy defense minister acknowledged the two sides’ attachment to promoting the bilateral defense ties over the past time. Gen. Vinh took the occasion to thank the RoK’s Ministry of Defense for the effective cooperation and support in training and education through providing scholarships for Vietnamese military officers and cadets.

The Vietnamese official highlighted the RoK’s effective implementation of post-war unexploded ordnance clearance projects in Vietnam. In particular, the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense, in collaboration with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Binh Dinh provincial People's Committee, launched the “Mine action for the RoK - Vietnam peace village project” in last May. The project will run until December 2026 with a total cost of over USD 14 million. He wished that the two sides would take specific measures in the future to promote the bilateral defense cooperation in all aspects, especially in the defense industry.
For his part, the RoK deputy defense minister expressed delight at the rapid and continuous development of the Vietnam - RoK relationship and affirmed the commitment to create favorable conditions for substantial and effective defense cooperation between the two sides. He promised to encourage Korean defense leaders and defense industry companies to participate in the 2nd Vietnam International Defense Expo in December.

While meeting with In Sub Jung, the Vietnamese deputy defense minister highly appreciated the cooperation and investment of Korean businesses, including Hanwha Group, in Vietnam. Gen. Vinh emphasized that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense is willing to create favorable conditions for Hanwha Group to enhance cooperation with Vietnamese defense industry enterprises, including the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel). He expected the two sides to accelerate the implementation of defense industry cooperation projects in accordance with the regulations and laws of both countries.

Mentioning the business’ long-term cooperative relationship with Vietnamese enterprises, Hanwha group’s leader expressed the wish to strengthen cooperation with Viettel to implement specific projects that align with the needs and interests of both parties in the future.
