Vietnam, Cambodia to enhance border guard cooperation
PANO - On April 24, Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief-of-the-General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) and Deputy-Defense Minister, hosted a reception for General Siek Socheat, head of the border affairs office of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), during his visit to Vietnam.
At the reception, General Giang held that the Vietnamese military, including the border guards, always promote solidarity and friendship with its neighboring countries, including Cambodia, to build a shared borderline of peace, cooperation and development.

For his part, General Siek Socheat briefed the host on the outcomes of his earlier meeting with the Vietnam Border Guard Command. Particularly, the two sides agreed to continue collaborating in sharing experience and information, carrying out joint patrols, accelerating people-to-people diplomatic activities, and supporting the border demarcation and marker planting, contributing to maintaining security and order in the shared border areas.
Highly valuing the outcomes of the meeting, the host suggested that the two border guard forces should maintain delegation exchange, raise locals’ awareness of border security and share any relevant information to deal with unexpected situations. The host affirmed that the General Staff of the VPA will always create favorable conditions for the efficient cooperation between the two sides, contributing to each country’ efforts to ensure security and defense.
