At the meeting, Senior Colonel Tran Nam Trung highly appreciated the close coordination of the Australian Embassy, relevant agencies, and in particular, the First Secretary of the Australian Border Force, in promoting effective, practical, and steadily growing cooperation between Vietnam and Australia in the field of immigration and emigration.
In recent years, the two sides have worked closely across various areas, including information sharing and participation in immigration-related seminars; training and capacity building for Vietnam Border Guard officers; cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in community outreach programs to prevent illegal migration; and raising public awareness to deter young people from being lured into illegal migration. These efforts have significantly improved the effectiveness of immigration control at border gates and seaports.
Colonel Trung proposed that in the time ahead, both sides continue to coordinate closely and further strengthen cooperation in key areas such as immigration management and control, maritime security, and the prevention of illegal migration.
