During the conference, both sides emphasized that the joint patrols were successfully implemented in June and September in the waters of Vietnam and Cambodia. Accordingly, both sides strictly observed all regulations and established a communication channel between the Vietnam People’s Navy and Royal Cambodian Navy which was signed by the two commanders on September 14, 2002.

They worked together to effectively conduct the joint patrols, ensure security and order at sea, practice travelling in formation, conduct search and rescue operations, and train the Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea (CUES) used by the navies of Western Pacific countries and semaphore (flag signaling) in accordance with the International Code of Signals.

Within the framework of the patrols, through communication channels, the naval forces of both countries also actively exchanged their related information and ensured close watch over their waters, contributing to creating favorable conditions for the two sides’ fishermen to do business at sea.

In the time ahead, the two sides will boost dissemination work to mobilize fishermen to strictly follow laws and fishing regulations at sea, while coordinating with functional units in the fight against cross-border crime, illegal border crossings, smugglings, and trade fraud, among others.
