Commander of the Vietnam People’s Navy Vice Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem chaired the welcome ceremony for the Thai guest.

On behalf of the Vietnamese naval force, Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem warmly welcomed Admiral Jirapon Wongwit and the Thai delegation on their significant visit to Vietnam.

The Commander of the Vietnam People’s Navy emphasized that alongside the overall development of Vietnam - Thailand relations, the ties between the two militaries and navies have been expanding in a substantive and practical manner. The two sides have effectively implemented signed cooperation mechanisms, including the establishment of communication channels, joint maritime patrols, officer training, and bilateral consultations.

He noted that naval cooperation has become a highlight in Vietnam - Thailand defense relations. Fifty-one patrols have been successfully conducted to date, following the inked agreement on joint maritime patrols in adjacent waters. Ships of the two sides have conducted port calls on each other’s countries. The activity has become a model of cooperation for other navies in the region.

For his part, Admiral Jirapon Wongwit expressed his appreciation to Vice Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem and the Vietnam People’s Navy for their warm reception and recalled several key achievements in naval cooperation over the past time. He stressed that joint patrol, bilateral consultation, delegation exchange, and officer training mechanism are important components in maintaining cooperation to build the adjacent waters of peace, stability, and development for the mutual benefit of both nations.

Looking ahead, both naval commanders agreed to assign relevant agencies to propose specific areas of cooperation to be submitted to their respective Ministries of Defense for consideration and approval.

As part of the visit, the Royal Thai Navy delegation paid a courtesy call on leaders of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense, visited the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, and toured historical sites and landmarks in Hanoi, Hai Phong, and Quang Ninh province.
