Vietnamese, Cambodian naval forces review joint patrol coordination

PANO – Naval Region 5 of the Viet Nam People’s Navy, in coordination with Ream Naval Base of the Royal Cambodian Navy, held the 38th review meeting on joint patrols in the Viet Nam-Cambodia historical waters on November 3 in Phu Quoc special zone.

At the meeting, the two sides reviewed the results of joint patrol sessions 83 and 84, conducted in June and September 2026, as well as the implementation of twinning activities. They also exchanged views and reached consensus on directions and measures to improve coordination in the coming period.

Reportedly, during joint patrol sessions 83 and 84, the naval forces of both countries maintained effective communications and successfully coordinated training activities involving the use of hand flags, signal flags, and lights, search and rescue operations, and drills on the use of the Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea (CUES).

An overview of the meeting

Alongside joint patrols, Naval Region 5 and Ream Naval Base have regularly exchanged information and shared experience in training, force development, logistics, and technical support, among other areas. These efforts have helped deepen twinning activities and obtaining practical results.

In the coming period, the two sides agreed to continue strictly implementing the Agreement on the Viet Nam-Cambodia historical waters, the regulations on joint patrol coordination, and the twinning memorandum; enhance information exchanges; and closely coordinate with relevant forces to promptly address emerging situations and maintain security and order at sea. They will also step up dissemination and encourage fishermen from both countries to strictly comply with the law when operating in the historical waters.

The meeting contributed to strengthening traditional solidarity and friendship, as well as enhancing mutual understanding, trust, and cooperation between Naval Region 5 and Ream Naval Base, thereby continuing to build the Viet Nam-Cambodia historical waters into a zone of peace, stability, and development.
