Its main areas of activity include defense technology research, defense industry development, product testing and evaluation, training, and technical support. Research priorities cover weapons systems, armored vehicles, unmanned systems, and simulation technologies for training.

He stressed Viet Nam’s defense industry development strategy, which emphasizes autonomy, self-reliance, resilience, dual-use capabilities, and modernization in support of an all-people defense. In recent years, the General Department of Defense Industry, the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel), and other defense industrial establishments have gradually mastered key foundational and core technologies and developed modern weapons and military equipment.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong proposed that the DTI cooperate with the General Department of Defense Industry and Viettel to explore opportunities in areas of mutual interest and strength, based on each side’s needs and capabilities. Potential areas include unmanned aerial vehicles, simulation technologies for training, and dual-use products and technical solutions that serve both defense requirements and civilian needs, including search and rescue operations.

He also introduced the third Viet Nam Defense Expo, scheduled to take place in Hanoi this December, and would welcome Thai defense companies, including the DTI, to participate and showcase their products.
