The welcome ceremony was held on January 9 at the headquarters of the Vietnam People’s Navy.
After the ceremony, both sides held talks. On behalf of the Vietnam People’s Navy, Vice Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem welcomed Admiral Adoong Pan-Iam and the Thai naval delegation to Vietnam.
He affirmed that along with the development of the Vietnam-Thailand bilateral ties, the bilateral defense cooperation and naval cooperation have also been developed practically. Both sides have promptly implemented signed cooperation mechanisms, improved the effectiveness of defense cooperation, in accordance with the interests of each side.
The bilateral naval cooperation is considered the highlight in the bilateral defense cooperation. The signing and implementation of the agreement on joint patrol regulations at bordering waters and the establishment of communication channels by the two navies have become a cooperation model for the navies of countries in the region.

Vice Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem also hailed the request of the Thai side on upgrading the annual joint patrol meeting between the two navies to an annual bilateral naval consultation mechanism. So far, both sides have organized three consultation sessions.
In order to further promote cooperation between the two navies, Vice Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem and Admiral Adoong Pan-Iam agreed to enhance delegation exchange at all levels, information sharing in training and maritime security. In addition, the two sides will maintain and promote the agreement on joint patrol coordination regulations and establishment of communication channels; and conduct joint patrols to visit each other’s ports, to name but a few.
On the occasion, Vice Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem also informed the Thai delegation that Vietnam’s government has established a National Steering Committee to prevent illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and directed functional forces to prevent Vietnamese fishing vessels and fishermen from violating other countries’ waters, in order to remove the E.C. yellow card on IUU fishing.

For his part, Admiral Adoong Pan-Iam thanked the Vietnamese side for its warm reception.
On the same day, the Thai delegation visited Brigade 679 of the Naval Region 1 of the Vietnam People’s Navy.
