Although the exchange lasted only one day, a series of important events took place with thorough preparations, spreading meaningful messages.

A simple beauty

Accordingly, the exchange started on December 14 in Po Y commune (Ngoc Hoi district) and Kon Tum city (Kon Tum province) with various activities, including the ceremony of saluting and painting the sovereignty marker, the joint patrol of the three countries’ border protection forces, the friendship tree-planting at the junction of the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia borderline.

After these above activities, the three defense ministers and delegates witnessed the joint military medical exercise; attended the inauguration ceremony of the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia border friendship cultural house; visited and presented gifts at Be Van Dan Primary School; and joined the annual meeting of the three defense ministers in Kon Tum city and signed several cooperation agreements.

Reportedly, the local authorities and functional agencies, especially the border guard forces, made preparations and carried out sideline activities more than half a year ago. The exchange was concluded successfully; however, the beauty of human love is the most profound feature before, during and after the exchange.

We were lucky to witness the happiness of local people in the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia borderline after receiving free health check-ups and treatment, scholarships, and other support from the Vietnam People’s Army before the exchange.

The images of a farmer from Ozadao district, Rattanakiri province (Cambodia) being moved when receiving a breeding cow or students from Phouvong district, Attapeu (Laos) bursting into tears when receiving scholarships from Vietnamese border troops have spread humane values lighting up the shared border.

A strong belief

Thanks to the exchange, local people in the border area of Po Y commune had an opportunity to witness coordination activities among the three militaries in border management and non-traditional security challenge response.

The silent footsteps of the border guards during the joint patrol activities have become a beautiful image in the eyes of the three militaries, delegates, and local people. The image has contributed to motivating local people to feel secure to stabilize their lives and develop the economy.

During the annual meeting of the defense ministers of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, General Phan Van Giang affirmed that the success of the exchange will create a new momentum to further strengthen political trust and cooperative relations among the three militaries in general and practical cooperation among the three border guard forces in particular, as well as accelerate economic development and people-to-people exchange among the Vietnamese, Lao, and Cambodian people in border areas. The activities within the exchange spread the message of solidarity, friendship, and mutual support among the three countries and affirmed the importance of maintaining a borderline of peace, stability, friendship, cooperation, and development, to name but a few.

In order to respond to non-traditional security challenges, the military medical forces have conducted a joint exercise to practice rescuing earthquake-hit victims. This is an occasion for participating forces to boost coordination ability and readiness to participate in medical relief in the region and the world when needed. The quick movements, flexible response, and close coordination among troops of the three Indochinese countries left a deep impression on the delegates and local people.

Moreover, the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia border friendship cultural house in Ta Ka village, Po Y commune, Ngoc Hoi district, Kon Tum province is a symbol of solidarity, friendship and cooperation among the militaries and peoples of the three neighbors of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. It is also seen as a center of cultural activities of ethnic communities in Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia borderline.

Many other beautiful images still remain in the hearts of local people after the first-ever Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Border Defense Friendship Exchange. All of them have contributed to beautifying the good virtues and images of Uncle Ho’s soldiers.
