The victim is identified as a youngster aged 26-27. He is in good health condition and just in shortage of drink and food. The hotel is some 20km from Ottara Thiri hospital where Vietnamese rescuers are trying to recover bodies.
Upon receiving the news of the victim at noon on April 2, Vietnamese rescue forces conducting a rescue operation at the hospital sent troops to the scene. They found the nearest way to approach the trapped victim.

On April 2, the VPA’s rescue forces continued their efforts at Ottara Thiri hospital in an attempt to recover more bodies there.
In the morning, they recovered one out of the four bodies found in the hospital. According to the force, there are 14 to 20 victims trapped in the rubble of the hospital. With the map of the hospital and possible positions of trapped victims, Vietnamese troops are trying their best to recover the most possible bodies.
According to Major General Pham Van Ty, head of the Vietnamese rescue contingent in Myanmar, three rescue teams of Vietnam were deployed for the rescue efforts on April 2. A medical team with specialized equipment was also formed to provide health check-ups and medicines for local people and rescue forces.

In the search and rescue operation on April 2, the military engineers of Vietnam used chisels, concrete cutters and iron cutters to clear the way to approach trapped victims.
Earlier, on April 1, the Vietnamese rescue force recovered four bodies from two collapsed buildings in Bala Tidi area of Zabu Thiri district, including a married couple, and a body at Ottara Thiri hospital at the request of Myanmar. Vietnamese military engineers, medical personnel, and service dogs joined the rescue efforts.

Vietnamese military medical staff also set up two tents to provide first aid and health check-ups for affected people.
The U.N. and humanitarian organizations have yet to determine the overall impact of the recent devastating earthquake in Myanmar. According to Reuters, Myanmar’s military government reported that as of April 1, the death toll surpassed 2,700 with more than 4,500 injured and at least 440 people missing. The number of fatalities continues to rise and could exceed 3,000. |
