Naval Commander receives Russian Navy’s Deputy Commander-in-Chief
PANO - Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem received visiting Admiral Vladimir Mikhailovich Vorobyov, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy in Hanoi on September 15.
It was within the ongoing visit of the delegation of the Aide to the President of Russia and Chairman of the Maritime Board of Russia to Vietnam.

At the meeting, the host spoke highly of key milestones in the relationship between the two countries, their militaries and navies. He emphasized that naval cooperation has been a highlight in defense relations and that the two sides have maintained regular high-level visits and effectively implemented signed cooperation agreements.
Vice Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem stressed that the Russian Navy has provided training for Vietnamese officers and cadets, helping the Navy of Vietnam enhance its capabilities, particularly in specialized fields. He also recalled the recent visit of the Smolnyy training ship to Cam Ranh International Port, during which Vietnamese naval cadets had the opportunity to conduct onboard training. This was a vivid and concrete manifestation of cooperation in training, offering cadets valuable practical experience and contributing to improving their professional skills and expertise.

He also noted that the Vietnam People’s Navy has welcomed numerous Russian naval ships to Cam Ranh International Port and has also sent vessels to participate in the Russian Navy’s founding anniversary celebrations and the Army Games hosted by the Russian Navy. On each occasion, the two navies organized sport exchanges and shared expertise, thereby fostering mutual trust and understanding.
For his part, Admiral Vladimir Mikhailovich Vorobyov affirmed that the Russian Navy stands ready to cooperate and support its Vietnamese counterpart in personnel training, collaborate in military techniques, and strengthen activities of the Vietnam-Russia Joint Working Group on Naval Cooperation.

He also extended an invitation to Commander Tran Thanh Nghiem to attend the Russian Navy Fleet Review 2026. The host acknowledged the invitation and expressed his readiness to participate in the event upon approval from the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam.
