Lao Deputy Prime Minister visits MR4
PANO – A mission of the Lao Government, led by Deputy Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, visited Military Region 4 (MR4) on October 28.
An overview of the working visit to MR4
During the reception, MR4’s Commander, Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong, underscored the region’s affiliated units have cooperated with other Lao units and localities to continue implementing friendship and cooperation programs and activities and they have achieved practical results, contributing to preserving and promoting the bilateral special friendship relations.
Accordingly, units of the two countries regularly exchanged information, coordinated to patrol on shared border areas, and tackled crimes, such as drug trafficking, etc. In addition, the two sides also successfully carried out agricultural and forestry extension programs as well as poverty reduction campaigns in their neediest localities.
Thanks to the support of the Lao Government and people, in the dry season of 2016-2017, the military region has searched for and repatriated 200 sets of remains of Vietnamese specialists and volunteer troops, who had sacrificed themselves in Laos.
For his part, the Lao Deputy Prime Minister expressed his pleasure during the visit to the Vietnamese military unit and asked MR4 to further improve cooperation with Lao units and localities under their signed agreements.
On the sidelines of the visit, the Lao Deputy Prime Minister worked with leaderships of the provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Quang Tri and handed over 24 tons of rice to the four provinces, which had been badly affected by storms recently.
On the same day, the Lao official led his mission to visit some local factories and Vung Ang Port in Ha Tinh province.
