Lao Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavat on Jan. 31 visited Vietnamese central Quang Tri province.
Deputy PM Somsavat Lengsavath, who is also Politburo member of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and chairman of the Laos-Viet Nam cooperation committee, was accompanied by representatives from relevant Lao ministries and branches and Vilay Vanphomke, head of Savannakhet province, which has sisterhood with Quang Tri province.
Empowered by the Vietnamese Prime Minister, Le Huu Phuc, member of the Party Central Committee and deputy secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People's Committee, and other officials of Quang Tri held a working session with the Lao government delegation at the Lao Bao special economic-commercial zone.
The two sides exchanged views on political, social and economic matters of common concern.
The Lao delegation was informed of Quang Tri's experience in building the Lao Bao special economic zone and its progress in implementing the open-door policy at the Lao Bao border gate, as well as measures to facilitate trade at the Lao Bao (Viet Nam)-Densavan (Laos) border gate area.
They also discussed a plan to build the Densavan economic, commercial zone in Laos.
