Dien Bien provincial Border Guard Command and Laos' Luang Prabang Public Security Department hold talks
PANO - On November 16, in Dien Bien Phu City, a delegation from the Dien Bien provincial Border Guard Command, led by its Commanding Officer Senior Colonel Phan Van Hoa, engaged in the 11th talks with the delegation from the Public Security Department of Laos' Luang Prabang province, headed by its Director Major General Tousong Patchay.
During the talks, both sides shared updates on their coordination in border gate management, border entry and exit control, crime prevention and fighting, as well as cooperation activities and exchanges between the two sides.
Both sides assessed that the political security and social order situation in the Northwestern provinces of Vietnam and the Northern provinces of Laos in general, and Dien Bien and Luang Prabang provinces in particular, has remained stable over the recent period. However, unpredicted components persist, including criminal activities such as drug-related crimes or illegal border crossings.
According to the memorandum of understanding signed at the talks, both sides agreed on several collaborative measures for the future. These include strict adherence to the legal documents governing the Vietnam - Laos land border checkpoints signed by the respective governments; joint efforts to ensure political security and social order along the border area; rigorous management and control of people, vehicles, and goods crossing the border, facilitating smooth passage through border checkpoints, timely identification and apprehension of law violators, and handling them according to each side's regulations.
