The event was attended by Director of the Department of Mass Mobilization Major General Be Hai Trieu; ICRC expert on the military and armed forces Lloyd Gillett; Head of External Relations and Communications of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society Luong Thi Hong Thuy; 75 officials in charge of mass mobilization work across the military.

During the two-day event, experts from the ICRC and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society shared issues related to International Humanitarian Law and practical lessons. They also introduced some simulated circumstances to help trainees apply their knowledge to real situations.

In his opening remarks, Maj. Gen. Trieu emphasized that educating and disseminating information about the International Humanitarian Law is one of the fundamental obligations of nations that have ratified the Geneva Conventions 1949 and their additional protocols.

With the support of the ICRC in the Southeast Asia and the Vietnam Red Cross Society Central Committee, the Vietnam People’s Army has, in recent years, jointly organized numerous training courses to enhance the military forces’ awareness, understanding, and capability of applying International Humanitarian Law to their task implementation and handling situations effectively.
