At the meeting, Admiral Philip Davidson thanked the Vietnamese Defense Minister for the reception and spoke highly of Vietnam’s successful organization of the second United States of America - Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Summit in Hanoi in February 2019.

The visiting general also reported on the host the outcomes of his earlier talks with Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defense Minister.

General Lich highly valued the outcomes of the talks, saying that the bilateral defense cooperation between the two countries has flourished, particularly in delegation exchange, personnel training, sharing of experience in participating in UN peacekeeping operations, and war aftermath relief, in line with the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership.

The Vietnamese Defense Minister suggested the Vietnam People’s Army and US Armed Forces continue expanding cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual respect for benefits of each country as well as for peace and stability in the region.

Earlier in the morning, Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defense Minister, and USINDOPACOM Commander Admiral Philip Davidson had talks.

General Giang stated that the visit of the USINDOPACOM Commander to Vietnam took place in the context that the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership, including the bilateral defense cooperation, has thrived. He also believed that the visit of Admiral Philip Davidson to the country would achieve much success, contributing to bolstering the Vietnam-US bilateral ties.

The guest said that it is the first time he has been to Vietnam and believed that the bilateral defense ties would further develop in the time to come.

During the talks, the two sides exchanged a number of global and regional issues of mutual concern. The two sides also agreed to expand bilateral defense cooperation with a focus on delegation exchange, personnel training, sharing of experience in participating in UN peacekeeping operations, and war aftermath relief.
