During the meeting, Mr. Michael Greene highlighted the close relations between his agency and the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense recently and hoped that the two sides will further expand their ties in the future.
For his part, Gen. Vinh also hoped that the cooperation between Vietnam and the US in surmounting the aftermath of war would expand in the coming time.
Both sides discussed the upcoming visit to Vietnam by a delegation of US senators led by Senator Patrick Leahy. As scheduled, during the visit, the two sides will announce the launch of a project to treat dioxin pollution at Bien Hoa airport, and that the US side will provide an assistance package of USD 50 million for Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin. Welcoming the visit of US senators, Gen. Vinh affirmed that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense will closely cooperate with relevant agencies of the two countries to make this visit successful.

At the meeting, Vinh and Greene also talked about coordination to organize a workshop in Washington on the cooperation between the two countries in overcoming war consequences. The workshop aims to mobilize resources, especially from the US side, to ease war consequences in Vietnam.
* The same day, Gen Vinh hosted a reception for Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Antonio Alessandro.
Gen. Vinh said that although the Vietnam-Italian defense cooperation has just been established, the ties have contributed actively to bilateral relations of the two countries. "Vietnam always attaches importance to the bilateral defense ties with Italia," he affirmed.
For his part, Ambassador Antonio Alessandro said that the relationship between Italy and Vietnam has been developing vigorously, especially since the two countries established a strategic partnership in 2013.
Both sides agreed that Vietnam and Italia still have much potential for cooperation in the fields of UXO clearance, training activities, participation in UN peacekeeping operations, and defense industry.
