An overview of the reception 

Welcoming newly-appointed Australian defense attaché Colonel Michael Jansen, the Vietnamese deputy defense minister expressed his hope that in new position, he would make further contribution to the bilateral relations in general, and the bilateral defense cooperation in particular, for peace and development in the region and the world.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien affirmed that Vietnam always treasured the Vietnam-Australia strategic partnership and hailed the potential and status of Australia in international arena.

Over the past time, the bilateral defense cooperation has been actively implemented in various fields, such as delegation exchange, dialogue, consultation, education and training, and U.N. peacekeeping operations, among others.

The general hoped that in the coming time, both sides would expand cooperation in many other potential fields such as defense industry, humanitarian aids, and organize meaningful activities in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Australia diplomatic relations in 2023.

On this occasion, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien also thanked the Australian Department of Defense for supporting the Vietnamese Defense Ministry in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, which was worth AUD 1.5 billion.

For their part, Colonels Paul Brendon Foura and Michael Jansen congratulated the Vietnamese Defense Ministry on its successful organization of the Vietnam International Defense Expo 2022, affirming that the Australian side always treasures and would like to promote multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam, including defense cooperation.
