Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang addresses the conference.

Addressing the conference, General Phan Van Giang applauded achievements of the defense attachés offices over the past time, stressing that they have addressed adversities, observed directions of the Central Military Commission, and completed their assigned tasks. Their activities have contributed to expanding foreign relations, strengthening defense external affairs in bilateral and multilateral forums, building strategic trust within ASEAN, and heightening Vietnam’s position in international arena, he added.

The defense minister affirmed that the force of defense attachés is important part of the defense relations service, thus they should observe the Party’s guidelines and State’s policies on foreign relations, being consistent with the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, diversification and multilateralisation.

He noted that the defense attachés need to have firm political stance, strategic mindset, professionalism, and good foreign language skills. They should also grasp all situations and provide timely recommendations for higher levels, contributing to accelerating defense cooperation and building a regular, elite, revolutionary and increasingly modern military.
