Conference on final plan for Asia-Pacific Peacekeeping conference held
PANO - The Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations (VNDPKO) on January 8 held a conference on the final plan for the general meeting and workshop of the Association of Asia-Pacific Peace Operations Training Centers (AAPTC), to be held in Vietnam in 2020.
The conference was attended by representatives from the AAPTC Secretariat, planning officials of the US Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI) and the US Office of Defense Cooperation in Hanoi, as well as relevant agencies and units under the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense.
Speaking at the event, Major General Hoang Kim Phung, VNDPKO Director, affirmed that AAPTC is an important event in 2020 when Vietnam undertakes the rotating ASEAN Chairmanship and non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (UNSC).
During the three-day event, participants discussed and reached an agreement on the detailed planning and preparations for the AAPTC 2020 meeting, including the agenda, selection of speakers, draft documents, and the host of the AAPTC 2021.
The successful organization of the AAPTC 2020 is an important step towards realizing the target to develop Vietnam’s peacekeeping training facility into a key center in the region. In addition, the conference is a meaningful activity to contribute to enhancing understanding, friendship and cooperation in UN peacekeeping operations between Vietnam and international partners, thereby affirming Vietnam’s commitment to raising the capacity of UN peacekeeping forces and the effectiveness of UN peacekeeping activities in the Asia-Pacific region.
