Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong and General Yoshida Yoshihide at the online talks

During the conversation, the Vietnamese general congratulated Yoshida Yoshihide on his new position as the chief of staff of the Japan Joint Staff and believed that the Japanese official will reap new successes and make active contribution to the cooperative ties between the Vietnam People’s Army and the Japan Self-Defense Forces, thus deepening the extensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan.

The Vietnamese chief of the General Staff emphasized that the bilateral defense cooperation has received due attention, been promoted and gained practical outcomes. The two sides have signed numerous important cooperation agreements as a foundation to boost cooperation contents.

He underlined that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense highly appreciates the Japanese side’s cooperation and support in education, training, U.N. peacekeeping, and improvement of personnel’s capability in air rescue and underwater medicine.

An overview of the online talks in Hanoi

Gen. Cuong hoped that the two sides will continue to further enhancing collaboration in exchange of delegations at all levels, search and rescue operations, and cooperation between services and corps.

Agreeing with Gen. Cuong’s proposals, Gen. Yoshida Yoshihide stressed that the bilateral relations with Vietnam is one of Japan’s most important relations.

The Japanese official expressed his hope that the two sides will continue maintaining the effective mechanism of consultation with naval, army and air force staff officers; carrying out programs on raising competence in air rescue, aviation medicine, underwater mine clearance, underwater medicine; and accelerating exchanges, particularly between U.N. peacekeepers.

The two officials agreed that after the phone talks, the two sides will continue to cooperate closely and exert great efforts to beef up the ties between the Vietnam People’s Army and the Japan Self-Defense Forces for the benefit of each country, for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
