An overview of the meeting

Colonel Thang briefed the guests on the department’s establishment, development, organization, functions, and missions; its achievements in joining U.N. peacekeeping operations; Vietnam’s orientations for the future development in this field.

He affirmed that U.N. peacekeeping operations is one of the cooperation fields that the two sides have paid attention to while strengthening their bilateral defense ties. Since Vietnam joined the U.N. peacekeeping operations, Cambodia has actively supported and shared experience to help Vietnam build and improve the capacity of Vietnam's peacekeeping forces, especially engineering.

The host hoped that in the coming time the two sides would continue to strengthen cooperation in peacekeeping operations, including sending delegations to join intensive and specialized training courses on peacekeeping operations organized by Vietnam, Cambodia, or a third party; bilaterally and multilaterally exchange professional experience in U.N. peacekeeping operations at U.N. missions.

For his part, General Meas Vanna thanked Colonel Thang and VNDPKO personnel for the reception.

Talking about U.N. peacekeeping operations, head of the Cambodian delegation said that with years of experience in joining U.N. peacekeeping operations, Cambodia expects to have more opportunity to cooperate and share experience with Vietnam in this field in the coming time, especially contents of Cambodia’s strengths, including the deployment of military police and ensuring the high proportion of women’s participation in U.N. peacekeeping operations.
