Australia shares aero-medical evacuation experience with Vietnam
PANO – A program to equip the medical staff of Vietnam’s Level-2 Field Hospital (L2FH) No.2 and other military units with aero-medical evacuation skills concluded on June 5 at the Vietnam Department for Peacekeeping Operations (VNDPKO) of the Ministry of National Defense.
Held by the VNDPKO under the assistance of Australia, the program attracted the participation of 26 trainees from the L2FH No.2 and the Air Defense - Air Force Service.

Addressing the event, Major General Hoang Kim Phung, the VNDPKO’s Director, said that the program aimed to raise the trainees’ competence in conducting aero-medical evacuation while implementing UN peacekeeping duties and military tasks. It was also to strengthen cooperation in UN peacekeeping operations between Vietnam and Australia.
The four-day program focused on internationally-standardized procedures for aero-medical evacuation, process of making plans to evacuate the injured by air, principles to ensure safety during the evacuation, and Australia’s experiences of carrying out aero-medical evacuation at a UN Mission.
In addition, the trainees practiced providing medical first aid, preparing and conducting aero-medical evacuation, and dealing with rising circumstances at Hoa Lac Airport.
