ASEAN-China Maritime Exercise starts
PANO - An opening ceremony of the 2018 ASEAN-China Maritime Exercise (ACMEX 2018) took place on October 22 at Zhanjiang Base, China.
Vice Admiral Yuan Yubai, Commander of the Southern Theater of the People’s Liberation Army of China and Rear Admiral Lew Chuen Hong, Chief of the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) jointly presided over the ceremony which was joined by Rear Admiral Pham Manh Hung, Deputy Commander of the Vietnam People’s Navy.

Speeches from the Chinese and Singaporean sides at the ceremony highlighted the importance and significance of the exercise that will contribute to promoting exchanges and military cooperation between China and ASEAN member states, especially practical cooperation at sea.
During the week-long ACMEX 2018, participating parties will seek cooperation mechanisms and measures to enhance China-ASEAN search and rescue activities, get used to the practice of the Code of Unplanned Encounters at Sea (CUES) and discuss its improvement.
Frigate 015-Tran Hung Dao of the Vietnam People’s Army arrived in Zhanjiang on October 21 to participating in the ACMEX 2018 from Oct 21 to 28.
