ADSOM+ WG gathers to boost defense cooperation among ASEAN nations and its partners
PANO – The ASEAN Defense Senior Officials’ Meeting Plus Working Group (ADSOM+ WG) was held virtually on November 18, under the chair of Lieutenant General Vu Chien Thang, Director of the Department of Foreign Relations under the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense, Head of the ADSOM+ WG Vietnam.
Present at the meeting were heads of ADSOM+ WG from ASEAN member states and representatives of the bloc’s partner countries (Russia, China, United States, Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, India) as well as representatives of the ASEAN Secretariat, Defense Attaches of ASEAN nations and partner countries in Hanoi.

The meeting aimed to enhance defense ties among ASEAN member states and its partners; promote the role of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense as Chair of the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) and ADMM+ in Vietnam’s ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2020.
At the meeting, participants discussed the operational plan for the ADMM+ Experts Working Group during the 2021-2023 period and the draft joint declaration of the 7th ADMM+ scheduled to be held online in December, as well as preparations for the ASEAN Defense Senior Officials Meeting Plus (ADSOM+) on November 19.
