The Italian guest is on a visit to Vietnam to co-chair the fifth Vietnam-Italy Defense Policy Dialogue.
At the meeting, Minister Giang expressed his delight at the constant development of the two countries’ relations in a closer, more intensive and comprehensive manner across all fields, from political-external affairs, economic-trade to culture, education, sports, and locality cooperation.

Gen. Giang emphasized that Vietnam always treasures its strategic partnership with Italy. Italy is one of Vietnam’s leading partners in the European Union while Vietnam is the most important trade partner of Italy in ASEAN. He expressed his belief that with political determination of the two countries’ senior leaders, Vietnam-Italy relationship would bear more fruits.
Highly appreciating the outcomes of the fifth Vietnam-Italy Defense Policy Dialogue, the Vietnamese defense chief acknowledged positive results in bilateral defense cooperation. Stressing that there remains much room for collaboration, Gen. Giang suggested the two sides strengthen exchanges of delegations at all levels, particularly the high level; and further cooperation in defense industry, training, U.N. peacekeeping operations. He also mentioned the consideration of expanding partnership in war legacy settlement, cyber security, military medicine, military culture and sports and ties between arms and services.

The host said that the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam would direct its functional agencies to effectively implement the cooperation orientations on the basis of the common perceptions of the two nations’ senior leaders and the contents reached during the fifth dialogue. These, according to him, would help beef up the bilateral defense ties in a more effective and substantive manner and in line with the two countries’ strategic partnership.
For his part, the Italian guest expressed gratitude to Minister Giang and the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense for the warm and thoughtful welcome. He congratulated the Vietnamese ministry on the successful organization of the Vietnam Defense Expo 2024.

He believed that in a straightforward and active spirit and with fruitful outcomes, the fifth dialogue would make important contribution to practically and effectively accelerating the Vietnam-Italy defense cooperation in the time to come.
On the occasion, the Italian Undersecretary of State for Defense sent congratulations to Vietnam on its official operation of the two-tier administrative model starting July 1.
